Rules of the Tournament

  1. Ball Regulations:

    1. Ball Type: All matches shall be played with a red tennis ball.

    2. New Ball: Each innings shall commence with a new ball.

    3. Lost/Damaged Ball:

      • If the ball is lost or rendered unfit before the end of the second over, it shall be replaced with a new ball.

      • If the ball is lost or damaged after the second over, a previously used ball shall be provided.

  2. Scoring and Umpiring:

    1. Scoring Platform: All match scoring will be conducted via the CricHeroes application.

    2. Umpires: Neutral umpires appointed by the Organizing Committee shall officiate every match.

      • All umpire decisions are final.

  3. Player Conduct:

    1. Teams and players must at all times uphold the Spirit of Cricket.

    2. Any act of dissent, abuse, or misconduct toward match officials or opponents may result in team disqualification.

    3. Field Access Restriction:

      • Only the nominated Playing XI of the fielding side, the two batters of the batting side, and the Organizing Committee are permitted within the boundary rope at any time.

      • No other individual—including captains, coaches, support staff, or substitutes—may enter the field of play without the on-field umpires’ allowance.

      • Breach of this regulation shall incur disciplinary action as deemed appropriate by the on-field umpires and the Organizing Committee.

  4. Match Start and Delay Rules:

    1. Teams must report 30 minutes before the scheduled match start time.

    2. Delay penalties:

      • Delay up to 5 minutes: 1 over deducted per side.

      • Delay over 5 minutes up to 10 minutes: 2 overs deducted per side.

      • Delays beyond 10 minutes: subject to Organizing Committee discretion.

  5. Fielding Restrictions:

    1. Power-Play Overs by Match Length:

      • 10-Over Match: First 3 overs.

      • 12-Over Match: First 4 overs.

      • 15-Over Match: First 5 overs.

    2. Power Play Overs: a maximum of 2 players allowed outside the inner circle.

    3. Non–Power Play Overs: A minimum of 4 fielders (excluding bowler and wicket-keeper) must remain within the inner circle at all times.

    4. Leg‑Side Fielding: A maximum of five (5) fielders is permitted on the leg (on) side, excluding the bowler’s end guard and the wicket‑keeper’s position.

  6. Batting Regulations:

    1. LBW & Leg Byes: Neither LBW nor leg‑byes runs shall be adjudicated; such dismissals do not apply.

    2. No‑Ball: Any kind of no‑ball (adjudged by the umpires) shall result in a free hit on the subsequent delivery.

      • If, during the act of delivery, the bowler—or any article of their clothing—breaks the non‑striker’s wicket, the umpire shall call and signal No‑ball.

  7. Bowling Regulations:

    1. Minimum Bowlers: Each side must use at least five (5) bowlers in every match (including the Final).

    2. Bouncer Limit: Two bouncers are allowed per over, provided the ball passes between the shoulder and head at an upright stance.

    3. Bowling Quotas by Match Length:

      • 10‑Over Match: Maximum 2 overs per bowler.

      • 12‑Over Match: Up to two (2) bowlers may bowl 3 overs each; all other bowlers limited to 2 overs.

      • 15‑Over Match: No bowler may exceed 3 overs.

  8. Dead Ball Rules:

    1. A delivery shall be declared dead if it makes more than one bounce before reaching the popping crease.

  9. Rain & Storm Regulations

    1. Abandoned Day: If persistent rainfall renders the ground unplayable for an entire day, affected fixtures will be rescheduled to the designated rain-affected reserve date.

    2. Reduced-Overs Scenarios:

      • Minimum 3 overs per side required for a result under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method.

      • Umpires determine when and how DLS is applied; limitations may be updated as needed.

    3. If Minimum Overs Cannot Be Bowled:

      • If a Super Over can be completed within the ongoing matches’ time window, it shall decide the match.

      • Else, the team with the superior group-stage points shall win.

      • If still tied, the team with the higher net run rate (NRR) in group play shall prevail.

      • If none of the above resolves the result and/or any unforeseen circumstances arises, the Organizing Committee will reschedule the match to the next available date.

  10. Substitutions:

    1. Minimum Players: A match may commence provided each side can field at least nine (9) of the playing XI. Up to two (2) additional squad members may field (only), but may not bat or bowl.

    2. Concussion/Injury Substitute:

      • A substitute fielder may be deployed if a player is injured, ill, or otherwise incapacitated, subject to the on‑field umpires’ approval.

      • Such substitutes may not bat, bowl, keep wicket, or act as captain without unanimous consent from the on‑field umpires and both captains.

  11. Retired Batters:

    1. Players may retire their innings only under ‘Retired–Out’. There is no provision for ‘Retired–Hurt’.

  12. Waste Management:

    1. Segregation: Teams will be provided with trash bins for waste segregation.

    2. Bottles: Empty water bottles must be returned to the Organizing Committee’s collection points.

  13. Rule Amendments:

    1. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to interpret, amend, or modify these regulations at any time to ensure fair play and safety. Any changes will be communicated to all the team captains.

    Note: By registering for and participating in the NRW Spartans Cup 2025, all teams and players agree to abide by these Official Tournament Rules.
